Artist Spotlight - Simon Zeng
Biography
Simon Xianwen Zeng learned oriental artwork, including calligraphy, paintings, and seal engravings, all back in China; starting at 12. Before immigrating to the US, he had spent 17 years honing his artistic craft and winning national prizes for his artwork.
As for Mr. Zeng's Western artwork, he studied at the Art Students League of New York. He is recognized for expressing his rich imagination and love for nature in his artworks, comprising of brush, ink, and color on paper, and the media of oil on canvas. His works describe the beauty of human beings and truth which are developed through both traditional and modern styles.
Mr. Zeng has been a professional artist in the United States for twenty-eight years, and has won several awards; most recently in 2024, he received the International Prize Botticelli and Leonardo Da Vinci International Award.
His art books have also been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum and the Princeton University Art Museum. In the words of Mr. Zeng, “…good artwork should express the truth, virtue, and beauty of humanity; instilling within the viewer a sense of joy and happiness, and provoking deep contemplation and reflection.
He says "I like and respect them both. I think they are all great art. The differences in culture, history, and artistic instruments allow for numerous styles of artwork. But regardless of whether the piece is oriental or western, good artwork should express humanity's truth, virtue, and beauty; instilling within the viewer a sense of joy and happiness, and provoking deep contemplation and reflection."
